  The Israeli military is calling on Lebanese civilians in southern Lebanon to not drive vehicles in areas south of the Litani River until further notice. "There is intense fighting in southern Lebanon, in which Hezbollah operatives are using the civilian environment and you as a human shield to organize to carry out attacks," Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF's Arabic-language spokesman, says on X. "For your safety, we ask you to avoid movement in vehicles in the north to the south direction, [south] of the Litani River," he says.  "This warning is valid until further notice," Adraee adds.

  Temporary shelters with space for 26,000 people have been set up as residents of Lebanon's south flee Israeli bombs, Lebanese minister Nasser Yassin has said. Families have loaded cars, vans and trucks with belongings, gridlocking motorways to the north. As bombs rained down, children crammed onto parents' laps and suitcases were tied to car roofs. Some 89 shelters in schools and other facilities have been activated to receive them, said Mr Yassin.

Tens of thousands of people fled their homes and they really didn’t have much time before they had to evacuate following the orders by the Israeli army. We were in southern Lebanon and we saw people pack whatever they could to make their way further north. Some moved to the southern city of Sidon, that’s approximately 40 kilometres south of Beirut. Others reached Beirut, others even went further north. Whole families. People were scared. They were afraid and they were concerned about what would happen next. Some of the families we spoke to said that they had to escape while there was bombardment around them. There were nonstop air strikes almost everywhere you looked. You didn’t know which road was safe, even along the main highway linking south Lebanon to Beirut, we saw air strikes along that highway. The Lebanese government is talking about opening shelters in schools, because schools have now been closed. They are saying that they are ready to care for approximately 10,000 people. B...

  The US doesn’t see any merit in this idea that has been put forward by the Israelis, that they’re going to escalate to de-escalate. They say the moves the Israelis are making to build up their forces on the border, which some see as a precursor to a ground invasion of southern Lebanon, they don’t think that’s helpful at all. So the US is using all the diplomatic levers they have. We heard from Biden, who met with the president of the United Arab Emirates. He was in the White House a few hours ago and he said his team were working around the clock to try and de-escalate. They simply don’t see what is happening in Lebanon at the moment as a way to de-escalate what is happening across the region. The US is sending extra forces to the Middle East – no details on how big those forces will be or what role they will play, but it’s clear that the Americans are deeply concerned with what they’ve seen over the last several days.

  The Israeli military says it bombed the Hezbollah launchers used in the missile attacks aimed at the Megiddo Airfield, located near the city of Afula. The military, writing on X, said it also attacked dozens of Hezbollah “targets” in several areas of southern Lebanon. As we’ve been reporting, Hezbollah claimed six attacks on Israeli airbases and an explosives factory earlier on Tuesday morning. Israel said it intercepted most of the projectiles and that some fell in open areas.

  Israeli forces have carried out raids across the occupied West Bank and arrested several people. Those arrested include: Seven Palestinians from the village of Madama, south of Nablus Six brothers from the village of Deir Abu Mishal, northwest of Ramallah Three people in the town of Yabad, west of Jenin A man and his son in the town of al-Yamoun, west of Jenin Two men in the old Askar camp, east of Nablus One man in Nablus city’s Iraq al-Tayeh One man in the al-Masayef area of el-Bireh governorate

 

  Five rockets were launched from Lebanon at Haifa this evening, according to the IDF. Several rockets were shot down by air defenses, and there are no reports of injuries. Since this morning, Hezbollah has fired more than 200 rockets at Israel, mostly at the north of the country.
