At least 31 people have been killed and 101 injured in Yemen after the US launched a series of airstrikes on Saturday, according to the Houthi health ministry.
The strikes, ordered by President Trump, targeted Houthi-held areas in Yemen, with the goal of stopping Iranian-backed Houthi rebels from attacking shipping along a vital maritime corridor.¹ ²
The airstrikes hit multiple areas, including the capital Sanaa and the northern province of Saada, which is a rebel stronghold. The Houthi health ministry reported that 13 people were killed in Sanaa and five in Saada, with at least 24 others wounded.
President Trump warned Iran to stop supporting the rebel group, promising to hold the country "fully accountable" for the actions of its proxy. The US leader also sent a letter to Iranian leaders offering a path to restarting bilateral talks on Iran's advancing nuclear program.
The Houthis have threatened to retaliate against the US, with a spokesperson saying that the airstrikes won't deter them. The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing for years, with thousands of civilians killed and millions displaced.
