Nigeria Catholic School Abduction: Armed Gang Kidnaps Pupils and Teachers
An armed gang has abducted an unknown number of pupils and teachers from St. Mary's Catholic School in central Nigeria, marking the second such incident in less than a week. The attack occurred early Friday morning, with reports indicating that 52 students were taken hostile.
The Niger state government has confirmed the abduction, stating that security agencies are assessing the situation and combing nearby forests to rescue the students. This latest attack follows the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls from a boarding school in Kebbi state on Monday.
The Nigerian government has condemned the attack, with President Bola Tinubu canceling foreign trips to address the rising wave of attacks.
The US President Donald Trump had earlier threatened military action over the treatment of Christians in Nigeria, but the Nigerian government rejected the claims, citing attacks on Muslims and Christians alike.
The abduction has sparked fear and uncertainty in the community, with families anxiously waiting for news. The Catholic Diocese has appealed for calm and collective prayers for the safe return of the abducted students and staff.
