Juan Izquierdo dead at 27: Footballer dies after collapsing on pitch as former Man Utd star Diego Forlan leads tributes
URUGUAYAN footballer Juan Izquierdo has died at the age of 27 after collapsing on the pitch during a Copa Libertadores match.
And tributes have poured in for the ace, with former Manchester United star Diego Forlan leading the way.
The defender was playing for Nacional in their last 16 tie against Sao Paolo when tragedy struck last week.
Izquierdo dropped to the ground in the second leg at the Morumbi Stadium in Brazil on August 22 .
The star suffered "cardiorespiratory arrest associated with his cardiac arrhythmia" in the 84th minute of the match, which Sao Paolo won 2-0.
And he was rushed to hospital where he was put on ventilator and neurological
critical care.
