Ghana has awarded Gold Fields' Damang gold mine lease to local mining services firm Engineers & Planners Ltd, the mines minister said Tuesday.  The government rejected the South African company's renewal bid and took control in April, breaking years of automatic extensions.  The decision is part of Ghana's push to boost local ownership in mining. Armed men abducted over 60 worshippers from a mosque in north-central Niger State during Friday prayers, police said on Saturday.  The incident is the latest mass kidnapping in a region plagued by violent gangs. Mass kidnappings for ransom have become common in parts of northwestern and north-central Nigeria, where heavily armed criminal gangs operate.  Police said operations are underway to rescue the victims and apprehend the attackers.  The attack has triggered fresh calls for improved security around religious centers across the state.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the arrest of Prince George Buchi Nwabueze and directed the suspension of three Permanent Secretaries after the ICPC uncovered a fresh fake agency.  The alleged fake National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office had a structure spanning several states and two foreign offices.  Punch reports how the fake Made-in-Nigeria office penetrated states and foreign offices before discovery.
