Zelenskyy and Starmer discuss continued support for Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Sir Keir Starmer have discussed continued support for Ukraine in a phone call today.
During the call, the Ukrainian leader thanked the UK for its commitment to continue training Ukrainian troops next year as part of Operation Interflex.
He also emphasised that "Ukraine also relies on the UK to train and equip Ukrainian brigades".
Special attention was also paid to the importance of "strengthening sanctions against Russia", specifically, its shadow tanker fleet.
"The head of state emphasised the need to maximize restrictions on the use of Russian tankers. This will not only reduce Russia's ability to finance the war, but also help protect the environment in the North and Baltic Seas," a statement from the Ukrainian president's office reads.
Zelenskyy and Starmer also "stressed that only effective security guarantees can ensure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine".
