We reported earlier this morning that Donald Trump said he has spoken to Vladimir Putin about ending the war - claiming the Russian leader wants the dying to stop (see 7.55am).
The Kremlin has not denied the report - made by the New York Post - which would represent the first known direct conversation between Putin and a US president in about three years.
Now, Russia's envoy to the UN has said they are waiting for "appropriate signals" from Washington.
According to state-run news agency RIA Novosti, Vasily Nebenzya said Russia is ready for talks with the US on Ukraine "on an equal basis" - provided Moscow's interests are taken into account.
