Nnamdi Kanu Gets Honorary Citizenship from US State of Georgia

 

 

 



Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been granted Honorary Citizenship of the State of Georgia, United States, while serving a life sentence in Sokoto prison. The proclamation, signed by Georgia's Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, recognizes Kanu as an "Outstanding Citizen" and "Goodwill Ambassador" from Georgia. Former Nigerian Consul General Uche Ajulu-Okeke received the certificate on Kanu's behalf, describing him as "Africa's most famous political prisoner and global prisoner of conscience". ¹ ² ³


The honor has sparked mixed reactions, with some seeing it as international recognition of Kanu's advocacy, while others question its impact on his detention. Kanu has vowed to appeal his conviction, arguing he was tried under a non-existent law.
