Unity - Pope Leo XIV Visits Istanbul's Historic Blue Mosque

    Pope Leo XIV made a significant interfaith gesture by visiting the Sultanahmet Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque, in Istanbul, Turkey. The Pope was accompanied by Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy and mosque officials, including Imams and the muezzin, AsgΔ±n Musa Tunca.     During his visit, the Pope was given a tour of the mosque, learning about its architectural significance and history. The Blue Mosque, constructed between 1609 and 1617, is one of Istanbul's most iconic landmarks and a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture.     The visit is part of Pope Leo XIV's broader engagement with Turkey's religious and cultural heritage, aiming to promote mutual respect and dialogue between the Catholic Church and Islamic communities.
