Russian investigators claim that Ukraine was behind the assassination attempt on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, a top military intelligence officer, in Moscow. The attempt occurred on February 6, when an unidentified gunman shot Alekseyev several times in the entryway of his apartment building.
The suspect, identified as Lyubomir Korba, was detained in Dubai and extradited to Russia. Investigators believe Korba was acting on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence services. Alekseyev, who is the deputy head of Russia's military intelligence agency (GRU), underwent surgery and is recovering.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Ukraine of trying to sabotage peace talks, stating the attack was a "terrorist act". Ukraine denies involvement, with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha telling Reuters they had nothing to do with the shooting.
The attack is the latest in a series of assaults on senior Russian military officials, raising concerns about security and tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
