If Wizkid and I Do a Song Together, I Don't Know If It Will Pop - Davido
Afrobeats superstar Davido has once again addressed the long-standing conversation around a potential collaboration with fellow global star Wizkid, saying he is not convinced a joint song would automatically become a hit.
In a recent interview clip making rounds on social media, Davido said:
“If Wizkid and I do a song together, I don’t know if it will pop because when D’banj and 2Baba did a record together, it didn’t really pop. If we tour together, I’ll ask for $500,000 per show because I know every venue will sell out...”
The singer expressed supreme confidence about what a joint tour would mean commercially, stating he would charge $500,000 per show because he is certain every venue across the world would sell out.
The Bigger Picture
Davido's comparison to D’banj and 2Baba is telling. In the 2000s, D’banj and 2Baba were the two biggest titans of Nigerian pop — much like Davido and Wizkid are today. When they eventually collaborated on songs like "Loose Em" and later attempts, the records, while celebrated by fans for the cultural moment, didn't become the era-defining anthems many expected.
For Davido, that history is a cautionary tale. The weight of expectation can sometimes crush the music itself. When two of the biggest artists in Africa link up, fans aren't just looking for a good song — they're looking for the biggest song of the decade. And that pressure is hard to live up to.
Tour > Song?
What is interesting is where Davido places his confidence: not necessarily on the studio, but on the stage.
A Davido x Wizkid tour has been the ultimate fantasy for Afrobeats fans for over 10 years. Both men have individually sold out Madison Square Garden in New York, the O2 Arena in London, and arenas across Europe, North America and Africa. Put together, the commercial power is undeniable.
His $500,000 per show figure isn't just bragging. Top-tier Afrobeats headliners are already commanding between $250k - $400k for international festival and arena bookings. A co-headline tour would be in a different league entirely — a historic, continent-uniting moment that promoters would fight to book.
Fans React
As expected, the Wizkid FC vs 30BG debate has reignited online. While some fans agree that a joint song might suffer from too much hype, others argue that in 2026, with Afrobeats bigger than ever globally, the two superstars are more musically matured enough to actually deliver a classic.
For now, there is no official song or tour announced — just Davido stating what many insiders have quietly believed: the business of Davido and Wizkid together is guaranteed to sell out. The music? That has to be right.
