Tenerife Striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda, 30, Dies After Cardiac Arrest Following Collision With FC Andorra Goalkeeper
Spanish footballer Jesús de Miguel Alameda has died after a heavy collision during a Segunda División match.
The CD Tenerife striker, 30, collapsed on Monday in stoppage time against FC Andorra at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López. With the score at 2-2 in the 97th minute, a long ball forward led to Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushing out of his area to clear. He struck De Miguel in the chest with his knee.
De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest following the collision and was taken to the ICU at the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. The match was abandoned seven minutes into stoppage time after he collapsed, with Owono shown a straight red card.
CD Tenerife confirmed his passing on Tuesday, November 3, in an emotional club statement asking the public to respect the family's privacy. The club said the Madrid-born forward died a day after suffering the cardiac arrest.
