Tinubu Suspends Three Permanent Secretaries Over Fake Federal Agency Discovery Scandal

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the arrest of Prince George Buchi Nwabueze and directed the suspension of three Permanent Secretaries after the ICPC uncovered a fresh fake agency.  The alleged fake National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office had a structure spanning several states and two foreign offices.  Punch reports how the fake Made-in-Nigeria office penetrated states and foreign offices before discovery. Tinubu also ordered a comprehensive forensic investigation into the creation of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and other agencies.  

Tinubu Unveils APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council Ahead Of National Elections

President Bola Tinubu has released the list of members of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council constituted for the 2027 general election.  The unveiling comes as campaigns begin in Nigeria, with Tinubu's re-election bid putting his party on trial. The move signals early preparation by the APC to retain power despite economic hardship concerns.  Political analysts say the council includes governors, former ministers, and party stalwarts tasked with nationwide mobilization. Opposition parties including the PDP and ADC have also begun consultations for their own campaign structures for the upcoming polls.  

Dangote Refinery Secures One Billion Dollar Underwriting For Planned IPO Listing

Nigeria's Dangote refinery IPO has secured a $1 billion underwriting programme, advisers said. The refinery, owned by Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote, has submitted an application for a $5 billion IPO to Nigeria's Securities and Exchange Commission, although the final size is not decided.  The underwriting deal is seen as a major boost for investor confidence in Nigeria's capital market and the downstream oil sector.  If successful, it would be one of the largest listings in Nigerian Exchange history and support fuel self-sufficiency.

Petrobras Negotiates Four Offshore Blocks In Ghana Keta Basin Exploration Deal

  Brazil's state oil company Petrobras has entered negotiations for four offshore blocks in Ghana's Keta Basin, Reuters reported Friday. The Energy and Green Transition Ministry approved its application to negotiate exploration contracts after Petrobras submitted expression of interest.  Sylvia Anjos, head of exploration, confirmed talks. This marks Petrobras return to West Africa as Ghana seeks to boost oil production. Keta Basin is underexplored compared to Jubilee fields but seen as frontier with high potential.  Government says deal will bring investment, jobs and technology transfer if commercial discoveries are made

  Supreme Court has dismissed Ofoase Ayirebi MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah's bid to halt High Court trials during legal vacation.  Justice Gabriel Pwamang, sitting as single judge, dismissed application Friday August 21, 2026 after hearing lawyers for Oppong Nkrumah and the State. Legal vacation runs August 1 to September 30, 2026. Oppong Nkrumah sought to suspend certain High Court trials, arguing vacation should stop proceedings. Ghana Cedi Under Pressure As Dollar Demand Outpaces Supply At Eleven Cedis

  Ghana's cedi is back under pressure against the dollar as corporate demand outpaces supply. LSEG data showed cedi trading at 11.00 to dollar Thursday, compared to 10.90 week earlier.  Stanbic Bank trader Ronald Mensah said dollar demand from local corporates and offshore players renewed pressure, with central bank spot auctions still main supply source.  The cedi had appreciated to 10.94 on August 17 from 11.75, gaining 6.9% in one week, but now sliding again.  Bank of Ghana measures and 14.5% prime rate yet to stabilize currency as importers rush for dollars ahead of Christmas season

  Despite the Board of Peace urging de-escalation, IDF strikes in Gaza killed two people this week, according to Haaretz live updates on August .  The UN Security Council is holding live sessions on Gaza and the West Bank as regional tensions mount, with Israel's attacks threatening the fragile October ceasefire that ended two years of war with Hamas. Iran Claims Control Over Hormuz Strait Amid Rising US Military Tensions Today

  Iran says the Strait of Hormuz is under its control as the US-Israel war on Iran continues, Al Jazeera reported August 15. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi blamed the US for violence in the strait.  Tehran and Oman have now agreed on route coordinates in the Hormuz Strait to reopen shipping, after mediators pushed for US-Iran talks. Turkey's Foreign Minister is discussing the second phase of the 15-point Gaza deal and risks posed by Israel's attacks across Palestine, Lebanon and Syria
